Comments:
we're away from the thunderstorm
and it's wonderfully calm. This is my downfall as we'll
see in a minute. I've turned the EyeSea completely on
and off and it's initialized just fine and dandy.
Down
we go and this ledge is even more impressive than the
other two. Serious relief and fishee's everywhere. BANG!
Another HogFish about to be dinner, but he has other
plans... another get away. I try to chase him down and
he gets up under a ledge that has a hole at the other
end and I never see him again. Next thing I see is a
very big turtle. Sweet. I follow him around for a few
minutes and he's just keeping his distance. Next thing
I know I'm off in the sand and 'lost'. Now the Cpt.
Mac had said the sand was to the West and the hard bottom
was to the East but I didn't know how far I was West.
That's OK, I'll just flip up the OL' EyeSea and what?
The thing is going nutzo and the anchor symbol is bouncing
all around the circle. This ain't good. I putz around
a bit, but decide to surface and get back to the boat.
Sure
enuff, the boat is about 200' away. I give Cpt. Mac
the OK sign and start paddling. When I get back to the
boat I go back down the anchor line to grab the now
tickin' me off EyeSea. Can't blame this little gem.
There it is in the sand. The tide had been so slack
that it was no longer suspended, but lying in the sand;
no wonder it couldn't give me a signal.
WHAT
WE LEARNED: Don't rely on just one piece of technology.
It would have been nice to at least have a compass down
there so I could tell if I was going in the SAME direction;
Sand is not very forgiving at giving clues as to your
direction.
Just
for the record book at the safety stop, I use 3PSI/breath!
Shorties
restaurant makes a great little burger that's just like
a Krystal's (White Castle) but with real onions. Both
Larry and I were famished and these puppies took the
edge off just fine. So many other good items on the
menu to try next time, Shepherds Pie, Hot Roast Beef
Sandwiches.... yum yum
