well this almost turned into a cluster fartch. The boat dropped us off at the stern and we immediately caught a gorgeous heading for the surface, but by the time we got to the bottom we knew we were in for a ride. Even the barracuda's were having to swim into the current it was ripping so bad. The giant chain on the bow was slapping up and down like a rag doll. Did a nice slow drift back towards to the tower to get some shots and before you knew it, we were at 1/3 our air supply. Gus called a turn around since we now had to go BACK against the current. Even the Orange Cup coral was out in full bloom the current was so strong!
Why the boat didn't have us come up the stern line is a simple case of it was easier for him I guess, but I never want to go against a current like that again. Just couldn't do it: trying to stay behind structure to minimize the current only helped a bit and by the time I passed the bridge I pretty much opted for plan-B. I dropped to the deck and literally crawled back to the chain. I'm big on don't touch anything, but this was a matter of survival.
Both Gus and I agreed that we both liked nice 'easy' reef dives a lot better....
