oh my God. What a blast. Zoo was our dive guide and he had us head out to the southern most point on the pier; he had heard there was a Seahorse out there so away we went. Well sure enough.... Zoo found it!!! A little anticlimatic since I've seen a few at Foster Park / Blue Heron Bridge. Zoo pointed out a few other cute creatures but the piese-de-resistance, was he found a FROG FISH!!!!! OMG. I would have never in a million years found it. He was so freakin' cute it's unbearable. Thank goodness Dawn great a great image of it!
Orange Cup Corals all over the place. The first group was a novelity and the next was a curiousity and soon they were everywhere in all their glory. We came upon a few squid that were in a romantic mood. They were running their light in full Vegas fashion. I think Dawn even got a shot of them, well.... in technical terms.... depositing the sperm sac. When the others moved on I covered my lights and the light show they put on was fantastic. Too bad we were kinda hurrying along and trying to keep up with Zoo so I couldn't hang out as long as I would have liked.
Near the end of the dive Dawn motioned that she was low on air. I tried to get Zoo's attention to let him know were low on air and were gonna head on up. By the time I turned around Dawn was almost on the surface! Zoo was over in a flash and I attempted to round up the troops to let them know we were heading in. When Ben and Ryan joined up I looked up it looked like there was full fledged rescue in process: Zoo was paddling like crazy holding on to Dawn and she was just kinda lying there limp like. I calculated if I should go up, but decided to stay down with Ben and Ryan and try to complete my 3 minute safety stop and just stay with them. Well next thing I know Ben is on the surface, but by now Dawn was starting to kick.
Turns out it was a bit of a weird combination. Dawn's computer was acting up and she was having trouble with here bouyancy because she was in a 5mm wetsuit and with the empty tank it just made a bad combination. She got a cramp, but Ben noted that he wasn't too worried when he got up 'cos Dawn was laughing and such. Whew.
