FISH OF THE DAY - FOTD - well not actually but....

within
  use

Well here we go.... Its not actually the fish of the day, but more of I have made it a quest to identify at least one fish that I do not know on each and every dive trip. With numerous resources available I will be utilizing many of them in my quest. I figured this is the only way to try and grow my knowledge.

The terminal phase of this species is greenish-blue and has a darkish bar that runs along the top portion of its pectoral fin... it looks as if the fish is holding a SCEPTER (just like a queen would do!).

BatFish - Short Nose

Shortnose Batfish are one-of-a-kind. Their mouths are turned down making them appear bitter and angry. They have a unicorn-like projection between their eyes and two dark bands that border a pale band on the tail. Their color and markings are mottled, and they hide on the bottom and cover themselves with sand and mud to camouflage themselves. They walk on the bottom on their fins. These grumpy gus's are found in depths anywhere from 1-1,000 feet of water, but, alas, are an uncommon sight. Don't waste all your air looking for this sourpuss.
